Spur Gears are most commonly used gears which are having teeth with involute profile. The involute is a specific geometry which is relatively difficult to draw and it is time consuming also. This paper describes a step wise procedure to develop a standard template in SolidWorks software to model a spur gear using gear parameters such as module, no of teeth& pressure angle as a global variables & equations. The involute curve of the gear is generated using parametric driven equation. The standard template may be used to generate solid CAD (Computer Aided Design) model of the spur gear of any size efficiently by just changing the gear parameters.
