A Mediation Analysis of Absorption Capacity by Bootstrapping Technique in Multiple Mediator Model

Abstract: The mediation methods suggested by Baron and Kenny, Sobel, Aroian and Goodman, have widely used to test the mediating effect. However, as there are many problems in statistical test power, as well as statistical accuracy, a bootstrapping technique has been suggested as an alternative. In this paper, we adopt the phantom variables based on the bootstrapping technique to test the mediating effect in multiple mediator model consisting of three or more mediating variables. In particular, we formulate the multiple … Show more

“…A phantom variable (also called auxiliary variable ) is a latent variable with no observed indicator and no residual, which does not affect the model fit and parameter estimation, and they are used to calculate the specific mediating effects (Cheung, 2007; Raykov & Shrout, 2002; Rindskopf, 1984). Specific indirect effects were estimated by adding phantom variables to the path model of the present study (Kim, Lee, & Shin, 2015; Macho & Ledermann, 2011).…”

“…To test the double mediating effect of cognitive response and affective response in the relationship between MTEs and tourist satisfaction, this study conducted a bias-corrected bootstrapping technique using phantom variables. The bootstrapping approach and the phantom variable are very efficient and systematic double mediation methods (Kim et al. , 2015).…”
