A message passing approach for multiple maneuvering target tracking

Abstract: This paper considers the problem of detecting and tracking multiple maneuvering targets, which suffers from the intractable inference of high-dimensional latent variables that include target kinematic state, target visibility state, motion mode-model association, and data association. A unified message passing algorithm that combines belief propagation (BP) and mean-field (MF) approximation is proposed for simplifying the intractable inference. By assuming conjugate-exponential priors for target kinematic stat… Show more

“…Based on the above models, the OTHR measurement models of targets and reference sources are given here. We focus on the range accuracy of targets in CR; hence the related measurement is the group path distance in Equation (6). For each reference source or target, the measurement equation is written as,…”

“…According to whether considering the curvature of the earth, the simplified models consist of the planar model and the spherical model. The former one was proposed in [5] and has been widely adopted [3,6,7]. The latter one was proposed in [8], which is more accurate and complex comparing with the former one.…”

“…Since the last decade, scientists have been exploring various approaches to tracking targets [5,6]. UAV states are described using dynamic equations, with parameters incorporated into the state vector dimensions to facilitate joint estimation [7].…”
