A meta-analysis of computer-tailored interventions for health behavior change

Abstract: Objective Computer-tailored interventions have become increasingly common for facilitating improvement in behaviors related to chronic disease and health promotion. A sufficient number of outcome studies from these interventions are now available to facilitate the quantitative analysis of effect sizes, permitting moderator analyses that were not possible with previous systematic reviews. Method The present study employs meta-analytic techniques to assess the mean effect for 88 computer-tailored interventions… Show more

“…This could result in the inability to thoroughly identify what they want from a design, how and when they will use it, what makes them want to use it, etc. There is strong evidence that behavioural change needs to be tailored to match an individual's needs and characteristics in order to be effective and sustainable [124,125]. Furthermore, by providing specific target end-users from the beginning, relevant stakeholders could be identified and potentially involved.…”

“…Behaviour change and prevention research demonstrates the benefit of tailoring interventions to individual users through, for example, assessing user preferences and characteristics, and computer-tailoring (e.g., Krebs, Prochaska, & Rossi, 2010). However, the intervention content preferred by mothers may not be meeting intervention preferences of their own daughters.…”
