A metal tolerance protein, MTP10, is required for the calcium and magnesium homeostasis in Arabidopsis

Abstract: Nutrient antagonism typically refers to the fact that too high a concentration of one nutrient inhibits the absorption of another nutrient. In plants, Ca 2+ (Calcium) and Mg 2+ (Magnesium) are the two most abundant divalent cations, which are known to have antagonistic interactions. Hence, maintaining their homeostasis is crucial for plant growth and development. In this study, we showed that MTP10 (Metal Tolerance Protein 10) is an important regulator for maintain… Show more

“…It also acts as a cofactor for several transport proteins and channels responsible for the movement of ions across membranes ( Allen, 2013 ; Chen and Ma, 2013 ). It regulates the activity of these channels, thereby controlling the passage of vital ions such as K + and Ca 2+ , which are crucial in various cellular signaling pathways ( Hermans et al., 2013 ; Tang and Luan, 2017 ; Ge H. et al., 2022 ). A deficiency or imbalance in Mg 2+ affects ion homeostasis, leading to dysfunctions in various cellular processes.…”
