A Method for the Quantitative and Qualitative Determination of the Total Long Chain Fatty Acids in Urine

Abstract: A method is described for the identification and quantitative determination of the urinary long chain fatty acids. The urinary lipids are saponified, the unsaponifiable fraction is removed, the fatty acids are extracted after acidification and converted into methyl esters. These are purified by thin layer chromatography and analysed by gas liquid chromatography.
