A method of turbocharger design optimization for a diesel engine with exhaust gas recirculation

Abstract: Downsizing a diesel engine using turbocharger and coupling it with exhaust gas recirculation is the recent trend to improve engine performance and emission control. For diesel engines, it is important to match a turbocharger that meets both the low-speed torque and high-speed power requirements. This article presents a method of turbocharger design optimization for a turbocharged diesel engine equipped with exhaust gas recirculation, on the basis of parametric study of turbocharger geometry. Turbocharger throu… Show more

“…To reach these objectives, several works tried to redesign or to propose a new design of TC compressor to enhance the engine output power, 9,10 improve mechanical sustainability, 11,12 secure working of the CC (surge margin), [13][14][15][16] or to optimize the design procedure. 17,18 Some researches were focused on the components of the TC or ICE including inlet and exhaust manifolds, 19 intercooler, 20,21 the CC and RIT casings, 22,23 variable turbine geometry, 24 exhaust gas recirculation, 25,26 or twin-entry radial turbine. 27,28 Due to the TC's technical complexity and cost, limited experimental studies were carried out in the matching field.…”
