“…Although several investigators have found a fluoride gradient (Riethe, 1968;Mellberg and Larson, 1978;Regolati et al, 1974), it is difficult to compare the results from one investigation with those from another, because the thicknesses of rat enamel removed in the various studies were not the same. However, our results agree closely with those of Retief (1977), who removed comparable amounts of enamel. Seven days elapsed in the first study between the last rinse and death of the animal, during which time most of the loosely-bound fluoride would have cleared from the oral cavity.…”
