A Mini Review on SARS-COVID-19-2 Omicron Variant (B.1.1.529)

Abstract: The current world facing unpredictable problems with different variants of COVID-19; SARS-COV-19 is a significant lung infection caused by a coronavirus. Each type has one or more alterations to distinguish from each other. The viruses, including SARS-COV-19, continuously change the genetic code (mutations) during their genome replication. WHO labelled two variants in that we are experienced with delta (B.1.617.2) variant, now recently the omicron came (B.1.1.529) with highly mutatable strikes on it. So WHO pr… Show more

“…SARS-CoV-2 variants have been identified worldwide to date, including Alpha (α) (B.1.1.7), Beta (β) (B.1.351), Gamma (γ) (P.1), Delta (δ) (B.1.617.2), and Omicron (B.1.1.529), with varying characteristics and protein sequences ( Fig. 1 ) [ 24 ] . As per genome sequencing, the Omicron belongs to Pango line B.1.1.529, Next strain branch 21k, and GISAID branch GR/484A [ 25 ].…”

“…In total, over 60 alterations, deletions, and insertion mutations have been discovered in the Omicron variation [ 26 ]. According to the structural analysis of SARS-CoV-2 variants, four 'S' proteins are found in the alpha variant, six in beta, eight in gamma, ten in Delta, and lastly, thirty 'S' proteins in Omicron [ 24 ]. The envelope (E) protein has one mutation (T9I) and the membrane (M) protein has three mutations (D3G, Q19E and A63T), whereas the nucleocapsid (N) protein also has three mutations (P13L, R203K and G204R).…”

“…Those scenarios are indicating the spreading of the Omicron variant in the Indian context. Many authors are studying the Omicron variant-related investigation in India, where the spreading of the new variants is affected the human body (Ettaboina et al 2021 ; Ranjan 2022 ). The global threat epidemic gradually built new sequences and variants which are affected the human body.…”

“…These symptoms may develop in different SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Alpha, Mega, Delta, and recently Omicron. In severe cases of COVID-19, loss of smell and taste sensation and difficulty in breathing have been observed, while Omicron-positive people did not have breathing issues to date ( Ettaboina et al, 2021 ). The incubation period of the SARS-CoV-2 infection ranges from 2 to 14 days ( Chan J. F.-W. et al, 2020 ; Guan et al, 2020b ; Jiang et al, 2020 ) compared to the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 with a 4-day incubation period.…”
