A Modified P&O Maximum Power Point Tracking Method With Reduced Steady-State Oscillation and Improved Tracking Efficiency

Abstract: This work proposes a method to reduce the steady state oscillation and to mitigate the probability of losing the tracking direction of the perturb and observed (P&O) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for PV system. The modified scheme retains the conventional P&O structure, but with a unique technique to dynamically alter the perturbation size. At the same time, a dynamic boundary condition is introduced to ensure that the algorithm will not diverge from its tracking locus. The modified P&O is simulate… Show more

“…Therefore, this paper aims firstly to extract lacking parameters in the manufacturers' datasheet by using a simple tool provided by MathWorks [11] and then model the PV panel. The single-diode model is used in this work because it gives a high compromise between accuracy and simplicity [12], and several researchers have used it in their works [13,14]. In addition, this work shows the effect of parameters that may change the performance of the PV panel.…”

“…The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is done by the control of the duty cycle in the DC‐DC converter. In general, in order to increase the efficiency and reduce the cost of PV panels, the electrical energy is extracted by applying MPPT methods …”

“…In general, in order to increase the efficiency and reduce the cost of PV panels, the electrical energy is extracted by applying MPPT methods. 5,6 To solve the above-mentioned restrictions in PV panels, many high step-up DC-DC converters have been presented. In the phase-shifted full-bridge converter, the voltage gain is increased by increasing the winding turns of the used transformer.…”

“…This paper focuses on the P&O algorithm because of its advantages, for example it can be implemented in analog and digital form, does not require periodic, efficient and easy to implement [2] [3] [8]. The P & O algorithm depend on the slope of the PV characteristic.…”
