A Modified Penetration Model for Copper-Tungsten Shaped Charge Jet with Non-Uniform Density Distribution

Abstract: Abstract:The penetration of a shaped charge jet with non-uniform density distribution was studied. The virtual origin model, which assumes a constant jet density, was modified to include the situation where the jet density deficit/reduction of an un-sintered copper-tungsten powder jet causes a non-uniform jet density distribution. A relation between the relative density ratio and the normalised jet velocity is proposed, based on which an analytical solution of the modified virtual origin model is obtained. The… Show more

“…Locking [30] stated that varying the coefficient (f x ) gives a slightly improved Gurney velocity prediction when compared with both the Cooper and Koch theories. It can be observed from both theories that the higher the detonation velocity of an explosive, the higher the Gurney velocity and the jet tip velocity, and therefore the larger the penetration depth into the target material [31].…”

“…RDX (1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazinane) is one of the most usable explosives all over the world [30], it has several applications such as production of plastic explosives (composition C-4 and semtex-1H) [31,32], highly pressed explosive for shaped charges and formation of demolition charges [33,34]. In this paper, hybrid material based on CuO plated MWCNTs was synthesized by electroless plating process and employed with nano Al(100 nm) to form a hybrid thermite material.…”

“…AUTODYN-hydrocode is a numerical finite difference code that is based on the three conservation equations; mass, momentum and energy, in which a material is defined by its equation of state (EOS) and its strength model 23 . This software has several applications in calculating the penetration depth of shaped charge jets into different target materials 24 . It has been also used in the study and the assessment of the fragmentation pattern of fragmenting warheads and showing the metalexplosive interaction and the analysis of the produced data of calculated metal fragments 25 .…”
