A multi-criteria sustainability assessment for biodiesel and liquefied natural gas as alternative fuels in transport systems

Abstract: The incorporation of clean-fuel technologies has become essential for the sustainability of the transportation sector. Natural gas technology, especially the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG), has become a possible alternative to diesel oil in freight transport because of its acceptable autonomy and low fuel prices. For the introduction of this alternative fuel, freight companies need tools that allow them to perform an integrated assessment of relevant aspects related to environment, economy and social respo… Show more

“…Yavuz et al [39] limit their options to the alternative fuel vehicles available to a specific home health care provider. Osorio-Tejada et al [33] choose their alternatives based on a study on clean power for transportation from the European Commission. In many papers, however, the reasons for the selection of the specific evaluation alternatives seem not adequately explained and this is also the case for the selection of the evaluation criteria.…”

“…LNG pressure is increased in the LNG pump (1-2), and then the LNG is evaporated in the heat exchanger (2-3). Next, the compressed gas is heated to ambient temperature (3)(4) and then goes to the expander where it is expanded (4-5) and work (w e ) is generated. After this, low pressure gas is heated (5-6) to ambient temperature in heater 2.…”
