A multi‐period multi‐criteria districting problem applied to primary care scheme with gradual assignment

Abstract: We present a modeling and optimization approach for the planning of primary healthcare services in order to efficiently direct patient admissions to general practitioners (GP) and to leverage the capacity of the healthcare system. We propose a multi‐period multi‐criteria districting model for the problem of designing GP districts in the presence of six criteria: workload balance, capacity, accessibility, compactness, income equity, and district similarity. We combine the last three criteria into a single objec… Show more

“…However, from one period to another, the similarity of the sectors has a crucial role in dynamic sectorization problems. Yanık et al [14] proposed a multi-period multi-criteria districting problem applied to a primary care scheme, a specific healthcare service in Turkey. Six criteria are considered: workload balance, capacity, accessibility, compactness, income equity, and similarity.…”

“…The applications of districting and territory design are very diverse. To highlight some recent works, Yanık et al (2019) study, for instance, a multi-period districting model in healthcare from a multi-objective optimization perspective. Their work consists of developing districting plans that evolve over time.…”
