A multi‐scale analysis of basketball throw in virtual reality for tracking perceptual‐motor expertise

Abstract: 1-For evaluating the efficacy of VR simulators, several scales of analysis should be used. 2-We evaluated basket-ball, ball-player, and player systems by monitoring success rate, ball kinematics, and player kinematics in a VR basketball simulator. These scales also reflect construct fidelity (the ability to identify the differences between players), biomechanical fidelity (natural behavior in VR), and psychological fidelity (the ability of the players to react and adapt to the changes in VR). 3-As shown below,… Show more

“…The current research in this area focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of different digital health technologies in objectively measuring physical activity and sedentary behavior (e.g., accelerometers, and wristband devices). Researchers are also investigating the application of digital health interventions to improve individual physical activity [45] and sedentary behavior [46,47], exploring the relationship between digital health technologies and exercise behavior [48,49], and studying the correlation between digital health and exercise performance [50,51]. Prominent digital health technologies used in this area include virtual reality, social media, and wearable devices such as activity monitors, accelerometers, and motion sensors.…”

“…In equation (1), if the target box and the prediction box do not intersect, IoU's value is 0, but if there is no intersection between the two boxes, the relationship between the two boxes cannot be measured, and the training and learning cannot be carried out, so that the regression effect cannot be evaluated [21]. Therefore, the GIoU function can solve the gradient problem due to the disjoint of two boxes, which is expressed as shown in equation (2).…”

“…In basketball, fixed-point shooting is a common means of scoring, and predicting the shooting rate is of great significance for the team's tactical layout and the improvement of players' skills [1]. Human pose estimation is the recognition and analysis of human pose information in images or videos through computer vision technology [2]. Through human pose estimation, key information such as the player's body posture, action characteristics, and movement trajectory during the shooting process can be obtained [3,4].…”

“…Artificial and virtual reality technologies offer immersive training experiences that allow players to simulate game scenarios and practice decision-making in a controlled environment (Pagé et al, 2019;Richard et al, 2022;Song, 2021). By analyzing their movements, field awareness and tactical choices, players can bridge the gap between training sessions and real games (Jiang & Zhang, 2022;Soltani & Morice, 2023).…”
