“…LCF was based on XANES (EXAFS) of the experimental reference materials collected at the same beam, DUBBLE: Ce 2 (CO 3 ) 3 , CeO 2 , Ce(OH) 4 , FeOOH, Fe 2 O 3 , FeO, FeCO 3 , Fe(II)/Fe(III) oxide. Owing to the complex structure of the composites, Feff.inp files were generated using theoretical crystallography data of several relevant compounds: Ce 2 (CO 3 ) 3 Á 8H 2 O [25], CeO 2 [26], CeCO 3 (OH) [27], Fe 2 (CO 3 )(OH) 2 [28], Ce(OH) SO 4 [29], bernalite Fe(OH) 3 [30], Fe 2 O 3 (b-iron oxide) [31], a-Fe 2 O 3 (hematite) [32], b-FeOOH (akaganeite) [31], FeO [31], FeCO 3 (siderite) [31], Fe 3 O 4 (magnetite) [31], and Fe(II)/Fe(III) green rust [32]. The paths were plotted together with the experimental spectra, carefully considered and selected for the final fits.…”

“…The completeness of the electron diffraction data provided by ADT-PED also provides an opportunity to study complex inorganic crystal structures (Mugnaioli et al, 2014;Pignatelli et al, 2014) and cases where there is nanoscale distortion of the structure compared with the bulk (Gorelik, Sarfraz et al, 2012), allowing variations in the mineralization of biological samples to be examined (Mugnaioli et al, 2014). Incommensurate structures have also been studied with ADT-PED, with a recent structure solution found for an incommensurately modulated crystal of Bi 5 Nb 3 O 15 (Boullay et al, 2013).…”

“…ADT3D software and in-house Matlab routines were used for the data processing, including three-dimensional reciprocal space reconstruction, cell parameter determination and intensity integration. The advantages of electron diffraction tomography for characterizing nanometric crystals, such as those in meteorites, are detailed inKolb et al (2011) andPignatelli et al (2014).2.1 Features of diffraction pattern of T-O phyllosilicatesOn the basis of Order-Disorder theory, it is possible to distinguish two kinds of reflections in the diffraction patterns of T-O phyllosilicates: family, and non-family reflections. The family reflections 00l are common to all polytypes of the same family (i.e.…”
