A multiagent supply chain planning and coordination architecture

Abstract: A supply chain is a worldwide network of suppliers, manufactures, warehouses, distribution centers and retailers through which raw materials are acquired, transformed and delivered to customers. In recent years, a new system approach for managing the supply chain at the tactical and operational levels has emerged. It views a supply chain as composed of a set of intelligent (software) agents, who are responsible for one or more activities and interacting with other related agents in planning and executing their… Show more

“…Different multi-agent architectures for supply chain integration and management have been presented as well (e.g. Fung and Chen 2005;Dong et al 2006;Zarandi, Pourakbar, and Turksen 2008;Santa-Eulalia, D'Amours, and Frayret 2012;Li and Chan 2013). In a mass customisation context, Labarthe et al (2007) develop a multi-agent system (MAS) for the modelling and simulation of supply chains.…”

“…[22]. Other definition is: "a supply chain is a worldwide network consisting of suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, distribution centers and retailers through which raw materials are purchased, transformed and delivered to customers" [10]. So, the supply chain is represented by a number of actors and many factors (inside and outside the company [13]) which have an impact of its functioning.…”

“…Most task refinement and task allocation approaches rely on centralised components, such as blackboards (Wellman, 1993), tables of capabilities (Fung and Chen, 2005) or broker like auctioneers (Wellman et al, 2001). An obvious limitation of these approaches in very large networks is its non scalability.…”
