“…Therefore, an AI-based surgical assistant system for AISS could be a great solution in university hospitals where resident working hours are regulated (eg, 80-hour resident special act in Korea and The European Working Time Directive in Europe) [ 18 , 20 ]. Of course, there may be some opinions concerning undertraining of residents, but the introduction of educational tools, such as simulation training systems, is a possible alternative [ 17 , 21 ].…”

“…In human medicine, validated surgical simulators train and assess camera navigation both directly and indirectly. The latter incorporates exercises designed to establish a broad set of psychomotor skills, while facing the fulcrum effect, restricted instrument movements, and a loss of depth perception …”

“…In the last few decades, progress and innovation in all branches of surgery, especially minimally invasive surgeries, have been very significant, and new technologies and techniques have replaced traditional methods in surgical procedures (1). Laparoscopy is a series of minimally invasive surgeries in which the surgeon performs surgical interventions through small incisions in the abdominal wall using long instruments.…”

“…Although anatomical vision has improved in laparoscopic surgery, the risk of postoperative complications and patient mortality has increased due to technical errors during surgery. Untrained surgical assistants do not provide good vision for the surgeon and the surgical team, which increases the errors of the surgical team and consequently reduces the patient's safety (1). In laparoscopic surgery, there is no freedom of the hands, a direct touch of the viscera, and three-dimensional vision.…”
