“…The D18S51 and FGA loci showed higher discrimination powers of 0.973 and 0.976, respectively. Our results for the Brazilian population (Grattapaglia et al, 2001;Fridman et al, 2008;Aguiar et al, 2012) agreed with those for the populations of Pará -North Region (Ribeiro-Rodrigues et al, 2008), the Mato Grosso do Sul -Midwest Region (Silva et al, 2004), Minas Gerais -Southeast Region (del Castillo et al, 2009), and Rio Grande do Sul -South Region (Leite et al, 2003) for most markers and indicators assessed.…”

“…Samples were genotyped for 12 X-STR markers (DXS9895, DXS7132, DXS6800, DXS9898, DXS6789, D X S 7 1 3 3 , G ATA 1 7 2 D 0 5 , D X S 7 1 3 0 , H P RT B , GATA31E08, DXS7423, and DXS10011) in a single multiplex reaction. Primers and PCR conditions were as described elsewhere [7,8]. PCR products were submitted to capillary electrophoresis, while separation and detection of fragments were performed with an ABI PRISM 3130 Genetic Analyzer using the GS-500 ROX size standard, filter set D, and POP7 polymer (Applied Biosystems, Foster City, CA, USA).…”

“…However, in some complex cases, autosomal markers may be inconclusive [2], requiring the use of non-autosomal markers, like those found in X and Y chromosomes. In recent years, many studies built and validated panels of STRs markers on the X chromosome (X-STR markers) to be used in forensic genetics, usually employing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) multiplexes ranging from six to 12 STR per reaction [3][4][5][6][7][8]. Such panels have been useful in complex relatedness cases when [9][10][11] (1) the putative father was not available, (2) the relatives were consanguineous, (3) the relative of the putative father is either his mother or daughter, and (4) in maternity investigation of a son [12].…”

“…Only three kits were available for the analysis of these markers: Mentype® Argus X-UL (Biotype AG), Mentype® Argus X-8 (Biotype AG) and finally, the Investigator Argus X-12 (Qiagen), considered the latest technology in X-STR testing [5]. However, in Brazil, population genetic data was reported for 42 X-STRs [6,7], especially markers of the 10-plex system implemented by Gusmão et al [8] and the 12-plex system developed by Ribeiro-Rodrigues et al [9,10]. This data is observed in 20 of the 27 Brazilian States (including Federal District); the Northeast and Midwest were the least studied regions and there is no information for the State of Mato Grosso (Midwest).…”
