A Mycorrhizal Bacteria Strain Isolated From Polyporus umbellatus Exhibits Broad-Spectrum Antifungal Activity

Abstract: The microbes in the rhizosphere (or mycorrhizosphere) could promote plant growth, however, it is unclear whether mycorrhizosphere microbes could fight multiple fungal pathogens. In this study, twenty-one bacterial strains distributed in 6 genera, including 5 Pseudomonas strains, were isolated from mycorrhizal samples of Polyporus umbellatus that rely on other fungi during their life cycles. Further screening and pot experiments showed that the Pseudomonas strain ZL8 not only inhibited the growth of phytopathog… Show more

“…Fengycin is a lipopeptide producing by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens PPL, which contributes to antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum ( Kang et al., 2020 ). Arylpolyene from Vibrio fischeri ES114 (APE Vf) was found in many Pseudomonas species ( Gaete et al., 2022 ; Han et al., 2022 ) and according to Dutta et al. (2020) this lipid influences the antifungal effect of P. fluorescens NBC275.…”

“…Soil is composed of mineral particles, organic matter, and microorganisms; the coevolution of microorganisms and their effects on fungal plant pathogens remain unclear (Joo and Hussein, 2022). However, the antimicrobial activity of antagonistic microbes (i.e., Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Agrobacterium, and Actinomycetes) and their natural products show great potential for use in sustainable strategies of plant protection and green pesticides development (Chakraborty et al, 2021;Han et al, 2022). The genus Burkholderia, which is widespread in natural environments with host diversity (Compant et al, 2022) produces bongkrek acid and toxoflavin, which can cause food poisoning (Elshafie and Camele, 2021).…”
