A near-infrared study of the obscured 3C129 galaxy cluster

Abstract: We present a catalogue of 261 new infrared selected members of the 3C 129 galaxy cluster. The cluster, located at z ≈ 0.02, forms part of the Perseus-Pisces filament and is obscured at optical wavelengths due to its location in the zone of avoidance. We identified these galaxies using the J- and K-band imaging data provided by the UKIDSS Galactic Plane Survey within an area with a radius of 1.1° centred on the X-ray emission of the cluster at ℓ, b ≈ 160.52° ,0.27°. A total of 26 of the identified galaxy member… Show more

“…While Hauschildt (1987) argues that the SC seems to end there, Chamaraux et al (1990) find some more redshifts indicating a connection to A569. Ramatsoku et al (2016) find a larger number of galaxies in a halo around 3C129 at the same distance as the Perseus-Pisces SC, further strengthening this connection. As shown above, we find in our study that the Perseus-Pisces SC extends through the cluster, 3C 129 close to the galactic equator, to the other side of the ZoA to UGC 3355.…”

“…Boehringer_PerseusPisces cent works (e.g. Hauschildt 1987;Chamaraux et al 1990;Ramatsoku et al 2016;Kraan-Korteweg et al 2018) based on radio observations of HI in galaxies discuss various extensions of the Perseus-Pisces SC, also into the zone of avoidance (ZoA), which is discussed in section 5.…”

EMU is making use of image-based filtering and for this work, as described in Section 3.1.4, we have produced equivalent filtered images for comparison with traditional ( u , v )-plane filtering.…”

“…A bent radio source, typical of radio galaxies at the centre of galaxy clusters and groups [11,33]. The uGMRT and MeerKAT images suggest that it possibly belongs to the wide-angle tail class of radio galaxies (see Figures 1 and 2, bottom-left panel images).…”
