A new approach for calculating the input power of machine tool main transmission systems

Abstract: The main transmission system, the key component for transferring energy in machine tools, is essential for studying the energy efficiency of machine tools, highlighting the need for manufacturers to measure the input power of the main transmission system to develop energy-saving technology. In response to such a need, this article proposes a new approach that can be applied to calculate the input power of the main transmission system fed by a converter. To develop this approach, the influences of the converter… Show more

“…Tuo et al [94] introduced the inherent energy performance index extraction method, including the simplified measurement of basic data and the calculation of the index. Liu et al [95] studied the relationship between the input power of the main drive system and the motor frequency and proposed a new method for calculating the input power of the main drive system, which simplifies the calculation of the EC when the machine is idle and loaded. On this basis, Hu [96] built a kind of online monitoring system for the EC status of CNC MT; Ma [60] established a kind of energy efficiency rating system for the CNC milling system by combining the intrinsic energy efficiency macro-micro model and built an intrinsic energy efficiency prediction and evaluation support system.…”

“…Here U and I are the IV and IC root mean square values, cos(φ) is called power factor (φ being the phase shift between IC and IV). The AEP evolution on machine-tools during stationary processes is a specific topic in (Liu et al, 2017;Miuraa et al, 2018), some of our previous researches were already involved in transient regimes description (Horodincă, 2016;Chifan et al, 2019). When we talk about transient regimes some supplementary resources are available related by the evolution of AEP constituents (U, I and cos(φ)).…”

“…Based on these works, some researchers began to investigate spindle motor optimization for energy efficiency improvement consideration. For example, Liu et al (2017) developed a method to obtain the optimal working frequency and working torque of a motor, which can be used to select the spindle motors for high-efficiency spindle system design. Wójcicki and Bianchi (2018) studied the energy saving potentials of a spindle system of a computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool.…”
