A new approach: Modeling, simulation, development and implementation of a commercial Grid-connected transformerless PV inverter

Abstract: Aninnovative methodology for the development of a commercial low-power single-phase transformerless inverter for grid connected photovoltaic (PV) systems is described. Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools like MATLAB/Simulink™, PLECS™ and dSpace/TargetLink™ allow fundamental steps, such as: physical modeling and simulations, innovative control algorithms design and testing, preliminary hardware evaluation, parameter optimization and auto-generation of C-code for real-time SW implementation. A final on-site t… Show more

“…To illustrate and to compare the different control strategies, a typology of the PV system must be chosen. The first decision that was made was to use either a grid connected, or non-grid connected system [11,12]. Secondly, a structure with a large market segment was investigated, e.g., a low or medium power installation that can be implemented e.g., on roof tops of houses.…”

“…In solar modules, continually changing environmental conditions such as partial shading can adversely affect the peak output power from the model. Many calculating techniques have been suggested by the researchers [3,[7][8][9][10]. Modest circuit constructed model was proposed in [3,[9][10][11].…”

“…In [3], an analysis of CAE tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and dSpace/TargetLink describes how they perform fundamental steps such as physical modelling, simulations, control algorithms design and testing, hardware evaluation, parameter optimization, and finally code generation for real-time software implementations. As an example, the development of a controller for a low power singlephase transformerless inverter was presented.…”

“…and P x is the x-th percentile of the values of P inst logged during a specified time interval, where x is 0.1, 0.7, 1, 1.5, 2.2, 3,4,6,8,10,13,17,30,50,80. The interval can vary from 1 to 15 m, however, the EN 61000-4-30 standard assumes 10 m for a typical flicker severity evaluation.…”
