A New Approach of Data Hiding in Images using Cryptography and Steganography

Abstract: Cryptography is the science of using mathematics to encrypt and decrypt data and Steganography is the art and science of hiding communication; a steganographic system thus embeds hidden content in unremarkable cover media so as not to arouse an eavesdropper"s suspicion. A novel scheme for the embedding data in images is CrypSteg in this method combined cryptography and Steganography process in one algorithm. First we encrypt the data and then embed with image with new Steganography algorithm. The method is ver… Show more

“…The images are represented in the computer as a Two-Dimensional Array of digital values, each one represents the intensity of a pixel unit. These values are used by the Raster to display on the screen at the location represented by each of these values [9]. This process depends on the number of binary cells used to represent each unit, the most important of which is the representation of (8 bit) or (24bit: 3Bytes) which is the so-called true color representation where each of the bytes represents a color of the three main colors (red, green, blue), and maybe represented by one cell only.…”

“…Nevertheless, steganography and cryptography differ in the way they are judged: steganography be unsuccessful when the "enemy" is able to reach the content of the cipher message, while cryptography be unsuccessful when the "enemy" discovers the existence of a secret message in the steganographic medium. The subject of study techniques for decoding cipher messages and discovering hide messages are called Cryptanalysis and Steganalysis [3].…”

“…On the other hand, cryptography is the enciphering and deciphering of data and information with a secret code so it cannot be understood [5]. Cryptography fails when the enemy is able to access the content of cipher message; while steganography fails when the enemy detects that there is a secret message present in steganographic medium [6]. The combining of both cryptography and steganography will enhance the security of passwords in password manager.…”
