A new approach to data access and research transparency (DART)

Abstract: Recent debates on transparency and replicability suggest that JIBS needs to update its approach on data access and research transparency (DART). We propose a series of initiatives, knowing well that there is a balance to be struck. There are clear benefits on the one hand, chief among these the potential for learning and knowledge accumulation, and equally manifest challenges on the other: the imperative to respect privacy, confidentiality, and intellectual property rights. Without addressing these challenges,… Show more

“…Scientific knowledge is the result of a multi-generational collaboration where we cumulatively generate and connect findings gleaned from individual studies (Beugelsdijk, van Witteloostuijn, The online version of this article is available Open Access & Meyer, 2020). Meta-analysis is critical to this process, being the methodology of choice to quantitatively synthesize existing empirical evidence and draw evidence-based recommendations for practice and policymaking (Aguinis, Pierce, Bosco, Dalton, & Dalton, 2011;Davies, Nutley, & Smith, 1999).…”

“…If there is little change in effect sizes, is it because of low statistical power? JIBS data access and research transparency (DART) guidelines (Beugelsdijk, van Witteloostuijn, & Meyer, 2020) require that this be clearly reported.…”

“…It is almost 2021, and the discussion about open research data, transparency, credibility, and research funding has been extensive in the past few years in the academic research communities of business and management (Babin, Ortinau, Herrmann, & Lopez, 2020;Beugelsdijk, Van Witteloostuijn, & Meyer, 2020). The list of journals debating and increasing practices related to what is known as open science (OS) grows by the minute and, at the moment, includes Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, and many others. Lists like this one are not a novelty anymore.…”
