A New Approach to Provide Sustainable Solutions for Residential Sector

Abstract: An energy-efficient appliance normally presents a lower energy consumption compared to a less efficient one, with a higher initial investment, although this not always happens. Additionally, each appliance, presents very different features, leading to some difficulties on its choice by the consumer (decision-agent). On the other hand, each consumer, has specific and distinguished needs from other consumers, namely of social, economic or environmental nature. Even by adopting these criteria, this is not an isol… Show more

“…As it mentioned before, NSGAII was used in this work as a multiobjective optimization method based on evolutionary algorithms. The motivation for its use is based on its success in other approaches, which are related to problems of the same nature, in addition with its perceived advantages [19,29].…”

“…The preferences regarding the social dimension were based on previous works from [20,28], as well as the ones from the economics dimension. The ones from the environmental dimension were chosen based on the works of [29].…”

“…Due to the stochastic nature of the method, it was performed a statistical analysis to assess its consistency, as it suggested in some of related works with metaheuristics (e.g. [45,46]). The statistical analysis, was performed with 30 runs/budget constraint scenario on solving the same problem by GAs, whose results were obtained and presented on Table 8.…”
