An Updated and Annotated Checklist of the Malacostraca (Crustacea) Species Inhabited Turkish Inland-Waters

The current status and annotated checklist of fresh-and brackish-water amphipod species inhabiting the inland waters (streams, lakes, ponds, lagoons, subterranean waters, etc.) of Turkey is presented. Totally, 171 papers, 3 books, 3 book chapters, 5 conference papers, 2 projects, 3 PhD and 3 MSc thesis were examined in the present study. As the result of the previous records, 201 taxa comprising 121 amphipods (16 families, 31 genera), 27 isopods (9 families, 13 genera), 9 mysids (1 family, 5 genera), 4 tanaids (3 families, 4 genera) and 40 decapods (16 families, 18 genera) were compiled. All the previously recorded localities of each taxon were listed in detail. The endemic taxa and the doubtful records were indicated and discussed. Twenty maps showing the distribution of reported species were also presented.

The latest study on the Gammarus fauna of Turkish fresh waters was by Özbek & Güloglu (2005) concerning the description of a new species, Gammarus ustaoglui, from a cave in the Anamur district, southern Anatolia. In the period covering 1905 to 2005, many species have been described and redescribed, but the exact number of Gammarus species inhabiting Turkish fresh waters is still unknown.…”

A new species of freshwater amphipod, Gammarus izmirensis sp. nov., belonging to the Gammarus pulex-group, is described. Specimens have been collected from a stream in the Kemalpaşa district,İzmir province, western Anatolia. A detailed morphological description and illustrations of the new species are given. Differences between the new species and related species are discussed. RÉSUMÉUne nouvelle espèce d'amphipode d'eaux douces, Gammarus izmirensis sp. nov., appartenant au groupe Gammarus pulex, est décrite. Les spécimens ont été collectés dans un cours d'eau du district de Kemalpaşa, province d'İzmir, Anatolie occidentale. Une description morphologique détaillée et des illustrations de la nouvelle espèce sont données. Les différences entre la nouvelle espèce et les espèces apparentées sont discutées.
