Abstract:A special class of symmetry reductions called nonclassical equivalence transformations is discussed in connection to a class of parameter identification problems represented by partial differential equations. These symmetry reductions relate the forward and inverse problems, reduce the dimension of the equation, yield special types of solutions, and may be incorporated into the boundary conditions as well. As an example, we discuss the nonlinear stationary heat conduction equation and show that this approach p… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
