A New Concept of Stirred Multiphase Reactor Using a Stationary Catalytic Foam

Abstract: Abstract:Developing new stirred gas-liquid-solid reactors with high mass transfer capabilities is still a challenge. In this publication, we present a new concept of multiphase reactor using a stationary catalytic foam and a gas-inducing impeller. The gas-liquid (GL) and liquid-solid (LS) mass transfer rates in this reactor were compared to a stirred reactor with basket filled with beads. Batch absorption of hydrogen and measurement of α-methylstyrene hydrogenation rate on Pd/Al 2 O 3 catalyst were used to eva… Show more

“…Stirred tank reactors (STRs) are the widely used industrial workhorse for chemical reactions, including heterogeneous catalysis, [55][56][57] catalytic cracking, 58 catalytic foaming, 59 and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, 60 just to name but a few. In terms of operation, solvent and catalyst particles are added to the tank, and impeller or impellers are used for mixing and suspending mobile catalyst solids.…”

“…PCR is one of the most commonly used enzymatic processes that involve discrete thermal cycling, making it a good option to study heat transport characteristics in microfluidic chips. Thermal modeling is a key element of many biochemical analysis systems, involving operations, such as kinetics analysis [2][3][4], enzyme catalytic mechanism [5][6][7], and biochemical interaction analysis [8][9][10]. Due to lateral thermal diffusion process in microfluidic chips, the thermal profile in microchannel can be accurately captured by using a three-dimensional conjugate heat transfer model.…”
