“…Another approach that is widely used to determine f APAR is based on the LAI and the Beer-Lambert law (Ruimy et al 1999). A third approach to estimate the f APAR is using the canopy NDVI (Verhoef 1984;Myneni and Williams 1994;Goetz et al 1999;Bastiaanssen and Ali 2003). In this study, to determine the f APAR accurately, the abovementioned approaches were tested and compared using the field dataset (see below).…”

“…Actually, this was not the case in most previous studies. Some studies treated the RUE as a constant (Moriondo et al 2007) while most calculated it by modifying the optimal RUE value using the corrective factors of soil moisture and air temperature with or without consideration of the crop types being C 3 or C 4 (Potter et al 1993;Prince and Goward 1995;Bastiaanssen and Ali 2003;Duchemin et al 2008). Factors like nitrogen (N), physiological development and other management practices have rarely been involved.…”

“…The model uses remote sensing data and the physics of the energy balance to estimates actual and potential evapotranspiration (ET act ; ET pot ) from net available energy. The model was extended to produce estimates of crop biomass production (Bastiaanssen and Ali 2003), so that crop yield and crop water productivity can be obtained on a pixel by pixel basis. Field measurements of ET act over natural vegetation surfaces and irrigated mango plantations in Brazil showed recently that the annual ET act values of SEBAL deviates respectively 4.4% and 0.5% from the eddy correlation measurements (Teixeira et al 2009).…”
