A New Damage Diagnostic Approach for Deep Groove Ball Bearings Having Localized Surface Defects in the Raceways

Abstract: This paper presents mathematical expressions to identify the existence of localized surface defects on the raceways of the deep groove ball bearings. For the formulation of the mathematical expressions, matrix method of dimensional analysis based on force, length, time, and temperature (FLTϴ) system of unis is used. The model is based on the complete set of physical dimensions and operating parameters of the deep groove ball bearing in that the spall size is directly allied with vibration responses. The formul… Show more

“…A mathematical model was derived here for defining the correlation between vibration response and the unbalance on the rotor-bearing system. Dimensional analysis [21][22][23] was used for development of theoretical model equations. It was assumed that the synchronous vibration displacement response due to presence of rotor unbalance depends on the parameters given in Eq.…”

“…An extension of reported DA methods can be intended to put forward the auxiliary marks in this area. 167171,175180 Their work can be stretched out by considering more variables or incorporating more complexities or phenomena into the model such as the life of bearings. The selection of a sample, design of experiments, concentrating the appropriate data ultimately enhanced the research value which is still in a state of rejuvenation.…”

“…The effect of spall of circular shape on vibrational characteristics of REB has been done well. 167171,175179 Jamadar and Vakharia 180 expressed a DA model for deep groove ball bearings associated with locally square defects on the bearing race surface. In this model, the operational affiliation of vibration responses with the geometrical and operating parameters of the ball bearings is well demonstrated using DA.…”

“…The defect frequencies of inner/outer race, ball/roller and their side bands were discussed thoroughly. Jamadar et al [8] presented a new fault diagnosis approach of the deep groove ball bearing with localized surface defects on the races. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is effective for diagnosing the surface defects on the race of the deep groove ball bearing.…”
