A new estimation of direction of arrival algorithm with a special antenna shape

Abstract: This paper presents a new subspace-based 2D direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for narrow-band sources with high-resolution localization capabilities. DOA estimation is achieved by using the noise-subspace eigenvectors of a new extended correlation matrix (ECM). A 2-L-shape antenna array is proposed. Unlike common planar and circular arrays, the novel antenna array with this special geometry requires no pair matching between the azimuth and elevation angle estimation. The performance of the propos… Show more

“…In this paper, we proposed a frequency-domain time-of-arrival (TOA) estimation method based on the Extended MUSIC algorithm [15] for indoor localization applications. The method will be compared with the best known methods such as MUSIC, ESPRIT and MATRIX PENCIL algorithms in terms of accuracy and resolution.…”

“…A logical expansion of the one-dimension case is the problem of estimating the two-dimensional direction of arrival, namely the simultaneous estimation of azimuth and elevation angles of multiple sources [3]. In this work, a 2-D implementation of MUSIC algorithm, which is able to resolve the azimuth and elevation estimation problem, is presented.…”
