A New Flicker Detection Method for New Generation Lamps Both Robust to Fundamental Frequency Deviation and Based on the Whole Voltage Frequency Spectrum

Abstract: A simplified Voltage Peak Detection (VPD)-based flickermeter based on spectral decomposition is proposed in this paper to detect flicker caused by high-frequency interharmonic components which effect the illumination of next-generation lamps, such as LEDs and compact fluorescent lamps. The proposed VPD-based flickermeter is specially designed to be robust to fundamental frequency deviations, which is a reality of all power systems. The proposed flickermeter is developed using a sinusoidal voltage model and it … Show more

“…• To be able to sense all flicker caused by low-and highfrequency interharmonic components, • To use a more realistic signal model, which does not use the AM model, but uses the summation of all frequency components as the signal model instead, • To present a stable operation in case of fundamental frequency deviations, • To be exactly compatible with the IEC flickermeter for lowfrequency interharmonics, • To provide a complete solution as apart from the flickermeter in [28] in cases of existence of more than one flicker frequency components considering the interaction between the flicker generating frequencies. The proposed flickermeter of which this feature is the most important advance is the only flickermeter in literature because of providing mentioned features altogether.…”

“…The fundamental frequency f f is obtained using the zero-crossing samples of u 1 n and 640-sample FFT, which is selected according to IEC 61000-4-7 standard (suggested to be processed at 5 Hz resolution and 0.2 s window) and sampling frequency f s = 3200 Hz is used to determine the fundamental amplitude, A. With these two variables, u 2 n = Asin 2π f f n is synthesised [27,28,30,31]. With the help of u 1 n , u 2 n and amplitude A, the normalised interharmonic and harmonic values are obtained as given in (4).…”
