A new genus of Cryphonectriaceae isolated from Lagerstroemia speciosa in southern China

Abstract: Numerous species in the Cryphonectriaceae have been recorded on the Myrtales and many of these are economically important pathogens of Eucalyptus. Some species have also recently been shown to be endophytes of native Myrtaceae and to have undergone host jumps to infect Eucalyptus species established as exotics in plantations. Recent surveys in the GuangDong and HaiNan Provinces of South China reveal the presence of a species of Cryphonectriaceae associated with cankers on trees of Lagerstroemia speciosa (Lythr… Show more

“…Isolates from this study were compared to published sequences of type species of the Cryphonectriaceae (Table 1). The generic relationships in the Cryphonectriaceae were analysed with a concatenated dataset of LSU, ITS and BT (including partial exon 4 and 5, partial exons 6 and 7) sequences with taxa selected from ex-types of described genera in the Cryphonectriaceae (Begoude et al 2010;Chen et al 2013aChen et al , 2016Chen et al , 2017Crane and Burgess 2013). The relationships between species were revealed in analyses of concatenated ITS and BT genes.…”

“…Cryphonectriaceae was not obvious, the same as genera. Chrysomorbus is classified in Cryphonectriaceae and proposed as a novel genus supported by DNA sequence data (Chen et al, 2018).…”

“…DNA sequence evidence demonstrated this genus to be a member of the Cryphonectriaceae (Crous et al ., ). Chrysomorbus was newly described based only on asexual states from Lagerstroemia speciosa (Chen et al ., ). Species differentiation of asexual states in the Cryphonectriaceae based on morphology is not easy because of the few differences between the asexual states.…”

“…Species differentiation of asexual states in the Cryphonectriaceae based on morphology is not easy because of the few differences between the asexual states. However, Chrysomorbus was attributed to the Cryphonectriaceae and its difference from the other genera is supported by phylogenetics (Chen et al ., ).…”
