A new innovative current controller for selective harmonic compensation using active power filters in a microgrid with renewable energy source

Abstract: <span lang="EN-US">In this paper, a novel current controller for selective compensation with active power filter (APF) in a microgrid (MG) is proposed. Power generation with sinusoidal voltage and high quality is essential in the microgrid. Hence, a current control-based method for shunt active power filters aiming to compensate the selective harmonic is proposed. Also, voltage source converter is used in the APF to improve MG power quality. Using the suggested control method can reduce total harmonic di… Show more

“…However, they have drawbacks such as erratic performance, unintended harmonic current absorption from neighboring non-linear loads, and the possibility of harmonic resonance with the system's series impedance, which could lead to further harmonic propagation throughout the power system [7][9]. To increase the power factor and reduce the harmonics, capacitors, high pass filters, and shunt passive filters made out of inductors and capacitors have traditionally been used, but these methods are permanent, clumsy, and can cause new utility resonances [10], [11]. Insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) devices with a hysteresis current controller are utilised with analogue cards to generate pulses for usage in inverter applications [12], [13].…”
