A New Iterative Algorithm for Finding the Minimum Sampling Frequency of MultiBand Signals

Abstract: Abstract-In this correspondence, we propose a new iterative algorithm for finding the minimum sampling frequency of a signal that consists of multiple bandpass signals. This finds important application in software radio where it is desirable to downconvert multiple bandpass signals simultaneously. We will derive a new set of conditions for alias-free sampling. The minimum sampling frequency can be found by iteratively increasing the sampling frequency to meet the alias-free conditions. We will show how the alg… Show more

“…Lin et al [16] have proposed an efficient algorithm to compute the minimum sampling frequency (F s,min ) required to down-convert multiple RF signals to multiple digital IFs. The algorithm avoids spectral overlap between the concurrent bands, which fall between DC and F s /2 after under-sampling.…”

“…However, minimum sampling frequency cannot be acquired in a closed form due to the nonlinear nature of spectrum folding in the process of sampling. In order to find a minimum useable sampling frequency, the literature [10][11][12] highlights the need to address certain BPS limitations like sparse spectrum, fixed bandwidth (BW), and unavailability of a universal rule.…”

“…In general, SDR systems need to deal with signals from multiple frequency bands. Hence, the results of bandpass sampling have been extended to multiband systems, e.g., see [4]- [7]. More specifically, the authors in [4] provided solutions in finding the minimum sampling frequency.…”

“…In [6], a nonuniform bandpass sampling method was proposed for multiband systems. A new set of conditions for aliasing-free bandpass sampling were derived in [7]. Bandpass sampling was also used in multiband OFDM systems to reconstruct the baseband signals in [5].…”
