A New Method for Reducing the Input Impedance of the Archimedean Spiral Antenna

Abstract: This paper presents an Archimedean spiral antenna (ASA) and explores the radiation characteristics of the ASA. We proposes a parallel Archimedean spiral antenna (PASA). The proposed antenna can maintain the radiation characters with a half input impedance compared with the ordinary ASA. The characteristics of the antennas such as VSWR, realized gain, radiation patterns are given. From the simulation results, we can see that this method can successfully reduce the input impedance of the ASA.

“…This analysis is restricted to avoid unintended resonance modes while having a relatively small antenna diameter (α = 45 • ), and a comparative study of various expansion rates (τ = 1.238, 1.322, 1.496) is included [15], [31]. Initially, to reduce the input impedance, the parallel radiator structure is applied to the four-arm sinuous antenna [30].…”

“…They are unsuitable for a sinuous antenna with a non-uniform arm width. Another approach to overcome these problems is the parallel radiator structure applied only to the Archimedean spiral antenna [30]. The parallel resistance synthesis principle is used in this structure to reduce the input impedance.…”
