A New Method of Evaluating Signal Quality for Systems to which Partial Response and Maximum Likelihood Is Applied

Abstract: Israel-Wilson metrics are solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell equations in the Lorentzian regime. We prove theorems showing that these metrics can consistently be analytically continued into the Euclidean sector where they can be made to satisfy asymptotically flat or asymptotically Euclidean boundary conditions. We show these spacetimes can have complicated topologies and suggest they provide a possible model for the gravitational vacuum. We note that these metrics admit a gauge covariant constant supergravity … Show more

“…The carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR), erase ratio (ER), simulated bit error rate (SbER), partial-response signal-to-noise ratio (PRSNR) and narrow-band signal-to-noise ratio (NBSNR) 1,11) were evaluated. SbER, PRSNR and NBSNR were newly introduced to evaluate the signal quality of the HD DVD system.…”

“…The capacities of 20 GB for a single-layer and more than 30 GB for a dual-layer rewritable medium have been demonstrated previously. [1][2][3] Recently, the feasibility of a high data transfer rate of 2Â or more has been successfully demonstrated for both singlelayer and dual-layer rewritable HD DVD media. 4,5) One of the features that enables the large capacity of the 20 GB single-layer medium is the ''low-to-high'' signal polarity (i.e., the reflectivity of the crystal part is lower than that of the amorphous part).…”
