A New Metric to Analyze Propagation Models

Abstract: Abstract-Deterministic propagation models are typically validated by performing comparisons between real and simulated E-field envelope distributions. These distributions correspond to straight spatial segments and, occasionally, also surfaces. This approach is correct to study large scale fading for relatively large distances. However, in a real environment and shorter distances, there are too many details to consider. As a result, it is almost impossible to reach a point by point match in a minimally realist… Show more

“…Deterministic methods [41][42][43][44][45][46][47] are based on numerical approaches to the resolution of Maxwell's equations, such as ray launching and ray tracing, or full-wave simulation techniques (method of moment (MoM), finite difference time domain (FDTD) [48], FITD, etc.). These methods are precise but are time-consuming to inherent computational complexity.…”

“…Various indoor models have been developed in the past based on semi-empirical approaches [10][11][12]. The advantage of these methods is that they require low computational cost but they have limited accuracy in comparison with high precision full wave techniques, which also exhibit very high computational cost [13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. A commitment between accuracy and computational time is acquired with deterministic methods, which are based on Geometrical Optics [20].…”

“…Research on delivering energy from space to earth started at the Institute of space of Astronautical science [ISAS] in 1981 and there has been an annual space energy symposium at ISAS since then. As part of working of this group "Solar power satellite" Strawman project was conceptualized [2].…”
