AbstractMany industry players are challenged by global warming and depletion of resources. Many industrialists are constantly looking for solutions to improve their operation and environmental performance. Based on the interview and literature study, manpower, machine, material, money and environment (4M1E) is known as the foundation to a facility to be able to operate. The common challenge faced by the industrialists is to perform continuous improvement effectively. The need to develop a systematic framework to assist and guide the industrialist to achieve lean and green (L&G) is required. In this paper, a novel development of an analytic model for lean and green (L&G) operation and processing is presented. The development of lean and green index (LGI) will act as a benchmarking tool for the industrialist. In this work, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to obtain experts opinion in determining the priority of the L&G components and indicators. The application of backpropagation (BP) optimisation method will further enhance the L&G model in guiding the industrialist for continuous improvement. An actual industry case study (combine heat and power plant) will be presented with the proposed L&G model.

Background Hazardous Material—Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (HazMat‐CBRN) incidents, though infrequent, are environmentally precarious and perilous to living beings. They can be deliberate or accidental or follow the re‐emergence of highly contagious diseases. Successful management of such incidents in pre‐hospital settings requires having well‐trained and prepared healthcare workers. Aims This study aimed to explore the reliability and validity of a satisfaction survey, answered by Specialized Emergency Management (SEM) personnel from a national Middle Eastern ambulance service, with a “Hazardous Material Incident Management” course offered to them as a continuing professional development activity and seek their opinion regarding Hamad Medical Corporation Ambulance Service personnel needs for other HazMat‐CBRN related training topics. Method In the cross‐sectional study, we conducted an online satisfaction survey for this group of course participants to obtain their feedback as subject matter experts. Aiken's content validity coefficient (CVC) was calculated to assess the content validity. Cronbach's α coefficient was determined to explore the survey's reliability. IBM®‐SPSS® version 26 was utilized to explore the data. Results The SEM satisfaction survey demonstrated important satisfaction with the implemented training with its robust reliability and content validity (Cronbach's α = 0.922 and CVC = 0.952). The participants also recommended additional related topics. Conclusion Sustaining and reinforcing the HazMat‐CBRN Incident Management course was strongly recommended, considering the increase of HazMat‐CBRN threats worldwide.

Today, the accelerated development of industry 4.0 and the immersion of technologies with the DMAIC methodology, Lean Manufacturing allows higher productivity and continuous improvement of industrial processes. There are countless manufacturing companies, of which very few have invested in technology and methodologies, so they have not been able to prepare themselves to advance at the same pace as the industrial revolution. This research proposes to include improvements in the manufacture of furniture by applying software tools and methodologies such as DMAIC, which consists of combining the application of some tools such as Lean, visual management, and standardized work. As a case study, we applied to the manufacture of furniture; the results indicated that by applying DMAIC and simulation tools, a significant increase in production was achieved, with a decrease in delivery time, in addition to the optimization and reduction of waste. This research can serve as a reference for future studies related to manufacturing processes when applying DMAIC, Lean Manufacturing, and simulation software.
