A New Multi-objective Formulation for Optimal Placement of Shunt Flexible AC Transmission Systems Controller

Abstract: The location of flexible AC transmission systems controllers for enhancement of voltage stability is an important consideration for practical power systems. In this article, a strategy for placement of shunt flexible AC transmission systems devices based on a fuzzy performance index is proposed. A fuzzy performance index based on three objectives-namely, increase in loading margin, improvement in voltage profile, and reduction of the system reactive power loss-is defined and proposed. The index can be used to … Show more

“…Additionally, a new approach to FACTS devices allocation is given. We have modified the multiobjective optimisation proposed in [25] in order to assess this problem taking load share into account. By doing so, loading margin was maximised and voltage deviation and reactive power losses were minimised using a modified IEEE 14-bus test system [26].…”

“…Both DVR and STATCOM base on voltage source converter. The DVR takes care of series compensation to inject dynamically the controlled inverse fault voltage to keep the wind turbine voltage constant [28], but the STATCOM, a shunt compensation produce shunt current compensation [20], [29], [30][31]. It can be utilized for reactive power compensation, flicker and prevention of harmonic [29].…”

“…The performance of BAT and Firefly algorithm have been compared to find the optimal location and size of Static VAR Compensator (SVC) in a power system for a multi objective function to improve voltage stability. Khandani et al [10] improved the voltage profile by optimal placement of Static VAR Compensator (SVC) using a novel hybrid Genetic Algorithm and Sequential Quadratic Programming (GA-SQP) method. Phadke et al [10] have used a fuzzy based index for the effective location of SVC for a multi-objective function.…”
