the child's/parent's satisfaction, and an outpatient follow-up examination for functional and cosmetic preputial appearance. RESULTSOf 128 parents/children responding, 108 (84%) were satisfied with the function and 102 (80%) reported a good cosmetic outcome. Triple incision as preputioplasty would be recommended to other parents by 119 (93%) respondents. Ninety-one (71%) of the parents feared disadvantages in their son's later life if the child had been circumcised. The outpatient examination showed an excellent functional and cosmetic outcome in 71 (77%) of the children. CONCLUSIONTriple incision is a simple, fast and safe technique for preputial relief, with good functional and cosmetic results, and was well accepted by the patients. Circumcision is seen as a valid, and often necessary, medical treatment even in parts of the world where infant circumcision is rarely performed outside the religious arena. This paper looks at the justifications for circumcision "for medical reasons" in the context of British Medical Association advice that circumcision is unethical and inappropriate where non-invasive treatment is safe and effective. The common clinical indications given for circumcision are reviewed against the evidence for the availability of conservative or non-invasive treatment. This review concludes that the effective treatment preserving the foreskin is available in almost all cases commonly treated by circumcision. The only common condition that may justify circumcision is preputial lichen sclerosus which does not respond to potent topical steroids. New developments suggest that circumcision may perhaps be avoided even in these cases.

Abstract: The operation for phimosis aims at achieving normal preputial retractability and the prepuce need not be removed. A method is described in which multiple Y-V-plasties relieve the phimosis without resecting any preputial tissue.
