“…The lutetium compounds with rhenium, ruthenium, and osmium were not obtained, possibly because lutetium is too small; similarly, the iron and manganese compounds with the early lanthanoids could up to now not be prepared, probably because these lanthanoids are too large to fit into the iron and manganese silicide carbide frameworks. Various aspects of the DyFe SiC type structure have been discussed earlier (1,2). In particular, it has been pointed out that it may be regarded as a filled-up (stuffed) Re B-type structure.…”

“…The series /?Fe2SiC [1] and RT2 SiC with T = Mn, Re, Ru, Os [2] were found to crystallize with an orthorhombic structure first determined for DyFe2SiC [3]. A monoclinic structure, first reported for Dy2Fe2Si2C [4] was observed for the series /?2Fe2Si2C [5,6 ] and R2R&2^h C [6 ].…”

“…YRe2SiC is a quaternary silicide carbide with orthorhombic structure, as reported by Hüfken et al [11]. This structure has DyFe2SiC (SG Cmcm) as prototype [12] and it can be described as a filled variant of the Re3B structure, where Re2Si units form a quasi-twodimensional layer with a puckered hexagonal arrangement [13]. These sheets are connected by carbon ions through Re-C-Re bridges, while the Y atoms fill available atomic positions in between the layers.…”
