“…The discovery of D. manadotuaensis sp. nov. together with the large number of other reptile species discoveries from Sulawesi in recent years (e.g., Kuch et al 2007;Hayden et al 2008;Linkem et al 2008;Koch et al 2009a;Riyanto et al 2018) emphasises the need to enhance and intensify systematic taxonomic investigations in the region (Koch 2012). On a broader scale, a large number of species still await discovery within the Wallacea region since it includes numerous isolated and remote islands which are not easily accessible or little explored (Setiadi & Hamidy 2006;Koch et al 2009b;Kaiser et al 2011).…”

“…nov. underscores the underestimated herpetological diversity on the island of Sulawesi (Koch 2011). Several have predicted that numbers of species will dramatically increase due in part to discovery of cryptic species and the exploration of under-surveyed regions (Iskandar & Tjan 1996;Brown et al 2000;Evans et al 2003a,b;Linken et al 2008;Hayden et al 2008;Amarasinghe et al 2015). South East Sulawesi remains one of the island's least biologically explored areas and still contains some of the most intact forest systems found on the island.…”

“…Comparisons with Other Species. Although a number of species groups within Cyrtodactylus have been proposed on the basis of phenetic similarity (e.g., the louisiadensis complex, Kraus 2008) or geographic proximity (e.g., the Sundaland group, Hayden et al 2008), there exists no explicit phylogenetic hypothesis of relationships within the genus. Ongoing molecular phylogenetic work (Bauer et al, unpublished) suggests that certain geographic clusters of taxa and morphologically similar species do correspond to monophyletic groups within Cyrtodactylus.…”
