“…Northern Myanmar is separated into three freshwater catchments (Conallin et al, 2019): the massive upper Ayeyarwady basin, which covers the central part of this area; the Chindwin River, a tributary of the Ayeyarwady, which is situated to the west of it and is bounded by the Naga Hills Range; and the Salween River, which runs through a narrow mountain valley in the eastern part of Shan State. It is known that the upper Ayeyarwady basin harbours a number of endemic animals, such as amphibians (Poyarkov et al, 2019;Zaw et al, 2019), fish (Britz, 2010;Kottelat, 2017;Kullander, 2017), crustaceans (Dumont & Green, 2005;Ng, Mar & Shih, 2020), and gastropods (Köhler, Li-Na & Jun-Xing, 2020). The fauna of freshwater insects in this area seems to represent a rather species-rich assemblage, but it is poorly known, with only a few recent reports on new and rare taxa being available (Bolotov et al, 2014;Liu & Dvorak, 2017).…”

“…On one hand we keep discovering new species in Yunnan, including freshwater gastropods (e.g. Köhler, Du & Yang, ; Du, Yang & Chen, ; Shu et al ., ), but on the other hand many already known species are endangered according to national and international Red Lists (Liu & Wu, ; IUCN, ).…”
