A new species of Lachesilla (Psocodea: ‘Psocoptera’: Lachesillidae) from Dominica, representing a new species group

Abstract: A new species of Lachesilla, from Cabrits National Park, St. John's Parish, Dominica, is here described and illustrated. The phallosome is V-shaped, and it is autapomorphic in having the distal ends of the apodeme arms articulated to each clasper. Based on these characters, a new species group is created, close to the L. forcepeta and L. palmera species groups (the latter also diagnosed in this paper). The holotype is deposited in the National Insect Collection (CNIN),

“…1-5) Diagnosis. Belonging in the pedicularia species group (García-Aldrete, 1974;Mockford, 1993). Differing from L. brasiliensis García-Aldrete, L. carioca García-Aldrete, L. iguazuensis García-Aldrete, and L. veneper García-Aldrete in the shape of the projection of the subgenital plate, in the pigmented area of the subgenital plate, and in the shape of the gonapophyses and pigmentation of the ninth sternum.…”

“…Remarks. This species is widely distributed, extending from southern Mexico to Argentina, it belongs in the forcepeta species group (García-Aldrete, 1974;Mockford, 1993). In South America it has been recorded in Trinidad, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina (Lienhard and Smithers, 2002;García-Aldrete, 2004;2009;García-Aldrete and Mockford, 2009;González et al, 2013).…”

“…Within Lachesillinae, the highly diverse genus Lachesilla has been divided into 20 species groups based on morphological similarity (Garcia Aldrete, 1974; García Aldrete, 2014; García Aldrete & Mockford, 2011). However, a morphological phylogenetic analysis revealed paraphyly of the genus Lachesilla , with the pedicularia species group + genus Nadleria Badonnel standing apart from the remaining Lachesilla species, which are closely related to the genus Hemicaecilius Enderlein (Saenz Manchola et al, 2019).…”
