A New Standby Structure Based on a Forward Converter Integrated With a Phase-Shift Full-Bridge Converter for Server Power Supplies

Abstract: This paper presents a new standby structure where a forward converter is integrated with a dc-dc phase-shift fullbridge (PSFB) converter for server power supplies. While a typical standby structure consists of an independent flyback converter, the proposed standby structure is integrated with one leg of the dc-dc PSFB converter. Its main advantages are that the voltage across a standby switch is clamped at the link voltage across the link capacitor and that the standby switch achieves zero-voltage switching ov… Show more

“…For these reasons, standby-flyback-integrating structures have been studied in recent years [15][16][17][18][19][20]. By integrating the flyback converter into the main power conversion stage, these works reduced switching losses, resulting in the improved efficiency of the system.…”

“…In this case, only a small output power is required to monitor the system status, so only the standby flyback converter with a small output power rating provides the standby output power. For the standby output, the flyback converter is widely used because of its small size and wide input-range capability [15][16][17][18]. Since Vout_STB should be regulated tightly, it is used for the feedback of the duty cycle of the standby converter.…”

“…Full-bridge converters with a simple structure, constant frequency pulse-width modulation and soft switching turn-on [1]- [4] have been adopted in medium power applications. However, power switches should suffer the input voltage due to the full-bridge structure.…”
