A New Strategy for Deleting Animal drugs from Traditional Chinese Medicines based on Modified Yimusake Formula

Abstract: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), such as Uyghur Medicine (UM) has been used in clinical treatment for many years. TCM is featured as multiple targets and complex mechanisms of action, which is normally a combination of medicinal herbs and sometimes even contains certain rare animal medicinal ingredients. A question arises as to whether these animal materials can be removed replaced from TCM applications due to their valuable rare resources or animal ethics. Here, we select a classical UM Yimusake formula, w… Show more

“…Since generally speaking, the inhibitory efficiency of a ligand is closely associated with the number and strength of its binding forces with its receptor (Wang et al, 2017), presently we explored the binding modes of several active ingredients with a GI regulating target CHRM3, an immunological target GSK3B and an anti-inflammatory target PTGS2 through molecular docking analysis as probes for validation of the C-T interactions of the formula.…”

“…In modern drug discovery, early assessment of absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) screening has become an essential process. The proper use of ADME results can give preference to those drug candidates that are more likely to have good pharmacokinetic properties and minimize potential drug-drug interactions (Wang J. H. et al, 2017 ). In the present work, four ADME-related models, including OB, Caco-2, DL, and GI absorption were employed to screen the active components from ZZW (Figure S1 ).…”

“…In order to cease the utilization of animal-derived products in TCM, several authors have proposed 12 herbs as substitutes 15 [88]. This proposition has to be considered carefully, as the evidence for the therapeutic efficacy of herbal remedies utilized in TCM remains poor.…”
