A virtual network embedding (VNE) method maps various virtual networks (VNs) onto the shared network infrastructure. The known VNE methods are mostly heuristic. The incomplete node importance evaluation taken by the known VNE methods lead to a low acceptance rate and inefficient network resource utilization. In addition, such methods focus on maximizing the possibility of the virtual network(VN) being accepted, which ignores the cooperation between different VNs and then intensifies resource fragmentation in substrate network (SN). To deal with these issues, we propose a new heuristic VNE method named VNE-GNT based on the generalized network temperature (GNT), which prevents the critical resources of a SN from being overused through optimizing the deployment location of VN request. Furthermore, the distance impact factor is applied to improve the collaboration between the node mapping stage and the link mapping stage. The simulation results show that the proposed VNE-GNT algorithm outperforms other known VNE algorithms in the terms of the acceptance rate and resources utilization.
