A novel adaptive learning management system using ontology

Abstract: Abstract-The success of web technologies has prompted a developing consideration on e-learning activities. Notwithstanding, most current e-Learning systems give static web-based learning with the goal that learners get to the same learning contents through the web, regardless of individual learners profiles. These learners may have altogether different learning foundations, information levels, learning styles, and capacities. The 'one size fit all' in an e-Learning frameworks is unmistakably a commonplace issu… Show more

“…-Rule-based approaches [13], [14] -Approach based on fuzzy logic [15]- [16] -Ontology construction approaches [17], [18] -Competency-based approaches [19], [20] -Approaches based on Artificial Intelligence techniques: machine learning, deep learning or genetic algorithms, etc… [21]- [23] In a work carried out by [13], authors proposed a method based on generic rules, that are developed in an automatic way. This is in order to offer unique and personalized content to learners as well as an interface adapted to the learning styles of each learner, that the automatic detection of the characteristics related to a learner remains faced with a high level of uncertainty and imprecision.…”

“…According to the authors the system uses ontologies and semantic rules to enhance and deliver better educational contents. Shaimaa, Leandros and Francois (2015) [29] presented an approach for designing and implementing an ontology based learning management system in their research work. The authors discussed about a framework which uses students learning style and ontology to identify the impact of student's behavior.…”

“…The objective of this paper is to build an adaptive student profile by analyzing the user's behavior through a learning management system and by matching the learners learning style with their personality with the use of ontologies and rule-based techniques (inference engine). An initial concept of our adaptive learning management system was presented in [12].…”
