A novel antioxidant and antimicrobial compound produced by Bacillus firmicutes

Abstract: In this study, antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds were produced from a dates seeds powder containing medium by B. firmicutes, a bacterial strain isolated from Al-Ain Alhara hot springs located in Gazan area in Saudi Arabia. The Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) of culture supernatant of B. firmicutes by the phosphomolybdenum was 2.5 mg/ml of culture medium, the total phenolic compounds is 5.3 mg/ml of culture medium and radical scavenging activity was done by DPPH. The greatest scavenging rate of antioxida… Show more

“…The antibacterial activity of fermented plants with the help of microorganisms in the form of fungi and bacteria has been successfully proven. Kombucha from sweetened lemon balm showed antibacterial activity against several Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria, namely Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Proteus sp., [41]. Meanwhile, fermented lotus seed flour showed antibacterial activity against E. coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Staphylococcus aureus [42].…”

“…Up to date, many studies related to the antioxidant property of compounds isolated from endopytes have been performed. Ahmed et al (2018) evaluated the antioxidant property of phenolics isolated and purified from Bacillus firmicutes, at a concentration of 5300 µg/mL, and reported a percentage of free radical scavenging activity DPPH of 60% [39]. In the study of Giri et al (2019), extracts from Bacillus subtilis VSG4 and Bacillus licheniformis VS16 at the concentration of 5000 µg/mL had the percentage of free radical scavenging activity DPPH varied between 69.1-73.5% and 63.3-69.8%, respectively [40].…”
